The New Other-Side-Of-Fifty

What exactly is this blog about? I can see more than a few of you who've been with me for the last several years scratching your heads and thinking, "Well Mags, we really have been your regulars because we're avid food blog readers and we like your recipes." A couple of you will admit to enjoying my warped sense of humor and I think the rest of you just stop by to see what I'm up to.

This blog never started out to be a cooking/food blog. It was really meant to be more of a journal of my life after turning 50. I started with random posts about moving out of state, my home and being newly retired, and then eventually found out that I love to cook (now that I have time!) It was during that newfound love of cooking era that I started getting interested in photography and in building my base of readers. I'm quite proud of how far I've come in the blogging world, but the thanks for that success belongs to you, my followers, for regularly checking out what I'm cooking up in my cauldron.

Where am I going with this? I'm going back to the beginning folks. I'm returning to my real reason for blogging, which is journaling about whatever it is I happen to be feeling for the day. Perhaps something has tickled me on youtube. Maybe I've got some family photos I wish to make available for family and friends. It could be that I just need to bitch about a doctor's appointment or my insurance company who won't pay for one of my medications.

Bottom line. This is no longer strictly a food/recipe blog. It is MY blog to heal MY life at a time when I need some serious healing. I apologize to everyone who comes here to find new and exciting recipes (especially to thisoldbroad) but as of this point in my life, I've just lost the desire to return to that arena. Someday perhaps. Or maybe I'll throw a recipe in here and there just for my own future reference.

I won't hold it against any of you who decide to drop from my regular reading list. There's WAY too much good food out there to waste any more of your time looking here.

Thank you again for your past support. I really have appreciated your love and prayers.

Mags

Baahh on the past support, it's present and future too and good on ya! This is YOUR blog; you don't have to please anyone but yourself and you certainly don't have to make apologies or excuses either. I for one keep coming back because you inspire me, you never fail to make me smile and darn it all you matter to me. So there!

Hey listen, have you read "Full of Grace" by Dorothea Benton Frank? It's fiction and as I was reading it, I could hear you laughing along with me!

You go girl! life is too short to drink bad wine, blog when you don't care to, or worry about disappointing the whole world. Go where your spirit leads you and for goodness sakes, keep having fun!

That said, I'll miss the "old Mags" blog while anticipating the new you.

June: I just got my "Nook" reader yesterday and right after I read your comment I downloaded that book you recommended. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know if I like it (or.... you'll hear me laughing from a thousand miles away...lol)

SeattleDee: Thanks for your support and for being such a fantastic follower of my blog. I've always enjoyed your comments.

I think of your blog as a friendly blog where I come to hear what's going on with you and, at times, what's cooking. I think that as one gathers friends in the blogging community. we want to hear about each other's day-to-day life. So, whatever you share with family and friends is most welcome here.

Best,
Bonnie

The recipes were always a bonus gift from the funny lady who lives here. They weren't the reason I keep popping in to see what your up to. Didn't mean to push you along before you were ready.

Be whatever you need to be on your blog & I'll keep popping in to check on you.. like a pesky neighbor with bad casseroles. Always cheering for you!

Thanks everyone, especially thisoldbroad ((HUGS)) for being understanding of my wishy-washy self and any/all neuroses that I have.

I'll be reading your blog regardless of recipes or not. I recently discoverd a blog that just tugged at my heart. A lady who writes about her gut wrenching journey of life without her sister. She throws in a recipe now and again and also writes more or less what she is thinking and feeling at the moment. Love it. I wish I could write like that. Looking forward to all your future writings Mags!

Same reason I started a blog! Mostly for family to see what we are doing here at the Compound. I actually never intended to pick up "followers", but am honored I have. I just like your sense of humor and your posts. Keep up the good work. You are right, there are many food blogs out there to find recipes and such. I enjoy reading about lives.

The beauty of blogging is doing what y+YOU want to do - I am a follower because I like all of you, Mags - not that I'm a stalker or anything - hehehehehehe

Mags,
Your blog has to be what you want it to be. Whatever you choose to write about will, no doubt, be awesome.

Personally, I did visit your blog to see what you were cooking up but I honestly love your wicked sense of humour the most. I'm eager to see what you're going to write about. I can't wait!!!

Change is good! I enjoy your writing and so I will continue reading.

Good for you! I think bloggers often get caught up in thinking too much about what their readers might think instead of focusing on what they want to do themselves. Best of luck returning to your roots. :)

1. It's your blog; you can do what you want.
2. While I enjoyed the food and particularly the bread, I just really find your humor to be worth returning for...that and the odd picture of your cutie patootie grandson!

Enjoy returning this blog to something that makes you happy again. As has been said above, life is too short to drink cheap wine, cheap coffee, or spend time on a blog you're not enjoying!

I wish you the best no matter what you do or blog about. Your Pumpkin Roll Ebelskivers are the reason I started reading your blog and I've loved it ever since, recipes or not. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us.

Hey, Mags, you can't get rid of us that easily! ;) Food or no food, what you have to say will always interest me. I'm glad you're sticking around and adjusting your blog's focus if that's what feels right to you. You need to do whatever feeds your soul, lady! :)

There is no way I will stop coming here to visit you. I love your blog no matter what you talk about. You know, when I started mine it was really just a journal too. Kind of funny how we progress. Your little man is adorable, he could heal any heart.
